Sparrows – Many sparrows could also be fed straight into the normal loot pool as occasional drops, but it would be cool if SRL returned to Destiny as a permanent activity, and players could race to land Legendary and Exotic sparrows as rewards there. To me, even though this is “cosmetic” stuff, it clearly has an impact on how it feels to play the game, which is what the community is expressing in recent weeks. And in order for Eververse to continue to be able to sell armor, the concept of armor itself has been rendered almost entirely superficial as a result. While it’s true that Battlefront 2’s loot boxes ruined the core feedback loop of the game by integrating progression and power with randomized drops, and Destiny 2 isn’t selling power explicitly, I would argue that the impact is similarly strong when we are now entering an era of the game where Eververse is begin granted nearly as many items as are added to the normal loot pool, and fun drops have been stripped out of other activities where they used to appear. But I will say I have not seen an often-angry Destiny community this angry about something in a very long time, and it seems possible that Activision/Bungie could be forced to pull an EA/ Battlefront 2 move if this continues, shutting down or drastically altering the store. I still don’t know how realistic a prospect it is for Bungie to completely shut down Eververse, even with all the fan anger about the storefront.
